Big Data Goes Hyperlocal with Block Avenue
Big Data is going hyper local with the launch of the new beta site, BlockAvenue. A start-up based in downtown Boston, BlockAvenue breaks down information into Thomas Guide bite sized information, or blocks.
The hyper local information comes from a variety of different sources including census data, transit information, crime statistics, sex offender registries, but goes one step further by pulling geo-located updates from sites like Facebook, FourSquare, Twitter, and more. The information is then run through various different algorithms and assigned a grade, A through F giving viewers an immediate snapshot of a city block.
We are painting a story about this location and what’s going on, and whether it is trending in a positive or negative direction.

The website is currently in beta, but the mobile app is expected to launch before the end of the month.
