Architects have been portrayed in Hollywood for years. Tom Hanks played an architect in Sleepless in Seattle. Adam Sandler played an architect in the movie Click. Josh Radner plays, Ted Mosby, an architect turned academic in the TV Sitcom, How I Met Your Mother.

When I was a graduate student at SCI-Arc there were at least 2 requests each semester from a film studio to borrow one of our models to help stage a set. However, you may be delightfully surprised to find out that there are true architects who have made it in Hollywood.

One of the most creative, high profile fields that can offer an architect a wide range of positions is the film industry. And, in fact, those with architectural backgrounds have been making the transition into the filmmaking industry for decades.  Our timeline showcases a sample of those with an architectural education who have enjoyed enormous success in the filmmaking industry over the last 80 years as actors, set designers, or directors.
