Listen to Episode 008: Studio Culture

What is studio culture and how does it relate to professional practice?

Guests:
Andrew Caruso, Director of Strategy & Operations for Urban Solutions at Hatch
Anthony Vanky, Assistant Professor in Urban Planning at the University of Michigan Taubman College

What is studio culture, and how does it relate to professional practice? In Episode #008, we interview Andrew Caruso, AIA, NCARB and Anthony Vanky, PhD, two former AIAS officers who have built innovative careers from the foundation of their architectural education. Andrew is an architect and economist, working at the intersection of urbanization and development within the world’s emerging cities. Anthony is an Assistant Professor in Urban Planning at the University of Michigan Taubman College, focusing on the use of data-centric practices in city-making and urban planning. We discuss how cultural norms learned in academic studio environments translate into professional settings, and why design leaders should be proactive to explore conversations on culture and employee experience.
